Renault debuts City K-ZE EV

The battery-powered model is set to be released in China and is the brand’s first venture into the EV A-segment.

Renault has taken the covers off the City K-ZE at the Shanghai Motor Show.

The K-ZE is an all-electric mini crossover that’s been designed specifically for the world’s fastest-growing EV market – China. Previewed last year at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the K-ZE is Renault’s first attempt at an EV in this market segment.

As the sixth all-electric Renault, the K-ZE is fitted with a battery pack that – if last year’s Paris concept is anything to go by – will offer drivers up to 155 miles of range on the NEDC cycle.

Despite being a budget option on the Chinese market, the compact crossover has a 300-litre boot and a 2,423mm wheelbase – both of which are class-leading.

Inside, Renault fits an eight-inch touchscreen that can controlled by smart voice recognition and it features a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite navigation and full access to information such as charging and trip data.

With the French firm looking to grow its influence on the Chinese market, Renault want to sell as many as 550,000 units per year in the country, according to chief executive officer Thierry Bolloré.

The French firm is reportedly building the K-ZE up to global industry standards, so the K-ZE could yet make an appearance on the European market later down the line.
