Mini range receives major updates for 2021

The brand’s Hatch, Convertible and Electric models benefit from a new look and more tech

Mini has given three of its core models a major update for 2021, introducing a revised design along with more technology.

It’s the brand’s three Oxford-produced cars that receive the updates – the three- and five-door Hatch, Electric and Convertible.

The front end is where the most noticeable changes have been made, with the models benefitting from a larger and more prominent hexagonal grille with a black surround, while the previous round sidelights have been replaced by new vertical ones instead. Meanwhile at the rear, the bumper gets a redesign incorporating a new plastic strip.

Three new colours have been introduced – Rooftop Grey, Island Blue and Zesty Yellow, with the latter shade being reserved for the Convertible. Additional gloss black styling is also available, while buyers can benefit from new alloy wheel designs. Those liking personalisation will also appreciate a new multi-coloured gradient pattern for the roof that can be selected. .

Inside, all models now come as standard with a large 8.8-inch touchscreen - previously an optional extra - while the five-inch digital dial system formerly found on only the Electric and John Cooper Works GP now features across the range.

In terms of performance tweaks, adaptive suspension is now available, with Mini saying it “redefines the brand’s hallmark go-kart feeling”. Safety tech has also been bolstered thanks to upgraded lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control systems.

The powertrain choice remains the same as before, with a  range of three- and four-cylinder petrol engines available in outputs from 101bhp to 228bhp. The Electric also continues to use a 32.6kWh battery and 135kW electric motor – allowing for a range of up to 145 miles.

Prices start from £16,045 for the three-door Hatch, £16,745 for the five-door Hatch and £20,705 for the Convertible. The Mini Electric is available from £25,100, after the government’s £3,000 grant.

Order books for the updated Mini range are now open, with first deliveries expected in the spring.
